Is there any real danger to Outlook and MS Word?

Is there any real danger to MS applications like Outlook, MS word, of being faded out from the way we use it in our office day to day life in office and home becuase of new collaboration tools coming out everyday.

One of these tools Zimbra. even Yahoo acquired it. It completely integrates your mails, meetings, Internet calls, calender, etc. Some of its boosted features other than email include.

  • Date hover: Where it can detect words like tomorrow and pop out the date automatically or words like next Tuesday and calculates the day to add appointment for you.
  • Contact hover:
  • RSS in folders: You can create a folder and set a URL for RSS feed, it shows new topics as new mails.
  • View Maps Pop directly in your message windows for directions.
  • Approve Reject purchase orders in emails by just right clicking.
  • and many more you can check out www.zimbra.com
It boosts having 9 million paid mailboxes and 10 of thousands of customers. They have got an open source version and a paid one also.

It was previously a freshmeat project, and its popularity there is not much only 7-9%.

Although most of the stuff it does is also done by Outlook except RSS folder things. I think, home user wouldn't need it. I tried it, it looks bloated too, to many things at one place, I think we have come to expect simple interfaces thanks to google in earlier days which also now has grown so many legs and arms which we just try to manage [ :-) ].

One going with that, I would like to say that sometimes we worry too much about securing a suitable username in the blog or email address than other real life problems. Few days back, I created a google a/c for my 5-months old daughter to secure her meanigful username. Also, there was a news in the paper about parents securing domain names for their children for the fear of it not being available to them when they are young.

I believe outlook or MS word are embed so much deep in office culture, that it would be very hard to replace it with some thing else. A lot of fellow colleges stare away from even hearing the Open Source word, no matter how simple the software itself would be.

I personally like the software or sites which make life a little easier, and not take up some MB of memory space in my mind for remembering its URL, user name, and an another entry in the things to check on the internet everyday. :D.

Any comments are more than welcome?

Run Linux on Windows Without VMWare

We can run linux on windows without VMWare like a normal windows program using QEMU. You can take any small linux distro like DSL or Puppy linux ISO and then run it using QEMU, then that OS would be running under windows like a normal windows program. You can even transfer data between this OS and windows OS using WinImage and creating virtual disks.

Linux Distribution: You can you any linux distribution but take an bootable ISO image.

QEMU: QEMU it shelf has this page for windows version of QEMU. You can download QEMU's windows packages which itself contains a testing linux image in it. Go to the above page and download qemu-0.9.0-windows.zip (28MB only) binary package, this includes a small linux from QEMU linux-test package.

Next extract it to a folder,

Next run the qemu-win.bat file and a window will open which shows linux booting.

To gain keyboard control to this window click in it anywhere, now you can use it like any other linux, running into your windows as a program.

To gain back control to window press Ctrl+Alt to exit the grab. Please leave your comments about how I can improve this article more. Thanks

Today, I spent most of the time looking for ways of increasing my blog traffic(actually had less work in office today [-;] ). silly me. Although, I found out many good links, like this one
7 Easy Steps to a Pimped Out Money Making Wordpress Blog

Great article about how to increase money making from your blog. Many suggested having link exchanges, link referrals, but I think the only thing which matters is the content.

Check out other post also like How Bloggers Make Money From Blogs good text to read.

:) also created logins at technorati, digg, del.icio.us, clipclip, and also setup the sitemeter for my blog showing only self-generated visit-count :(.

I guess everybody having blogs goes through these steps, so I did too.

As the evening grew, decided to first only start to post my thoughts and give genuine great content to my visitors, and if I succeed to entertain few people regularly, may be then other things will follow....

So, the only important secret to a popular blog is CONTENT. Do what blog means for (blogging), rest is side effects. First built up your reputation after successfully blogging, then concentrate on monetizing from the traffic, but keep the momentum by writing as genuinely as ever.

Really Good Java Script Magic

I've come accross this while surfing web.

Go to any site that has images. For example go to images.google.com and search for anything what comes into your mind. Then, copy and paste this into your address bar and hit enter:

javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.getElementsByTagName("img"); DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=(Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5)+"px"; DIS.top=(Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5)+"px"}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0);

All the images from the page will be taken off their place and start circling your screen. I really astonished me. This is when I say "COOOOL".

Improve Your Living By Drinking Water On Empty Stomach

I came across this usefull technique.

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven a its value. We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

METHOD OF TREATMENT

  1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
  2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
  3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
  4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
  5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
  6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:
  1. High Blood Pressure - 30 days
  2. Gastric - 10 days
  3. Diabetes - 30 days
  4. Constipation - 10 days
  5. Cancer - 180 days
  6. TB - 90 days
  7. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards - daily.
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.

It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.

Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.

This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals ..not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.

It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.

Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks: Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.

Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive...

A cardiologist says if everyone who reads this and sends it or share it to everyone they know, you can be sure that we'll save at least one life. So, here I put it on my blog.

High end laptop Vs What you need

Almost every week I encounter myself with some of my friends, colleagues about buying a new laptop or desktop computer, and we endup arguing on buying hight end or right thing for job discussion. While they says they want huge hardisk, 2 GB RAM, and Graphics cards, etc, I personally feel that one should buy a laptop for the proposed use of it and what they will be using the laptop for and not for the sake of having everything in it.

I remember, in one of my previous company we had a bulky laptop which almost had everything, but you just couldn't take it with you everywhere because it was too heavy on your shoulders, and finally it got dumped in IT area, used occasionally only to write DVDs using its dual-layer DVD writer -;.

I personally think, that when you are planning to buy a laptop, first analyze what you will be using it for? if you answer is "at office, always on the move, only using word and outlook, and FireFox", then go for a light weight one having average CPU(I guess dual-core has being average now a day), RAM, and Storage capacity, and it will burn a less hole in your pocket for not spending on the features which you will rarely use. I hope many people would agree with me on this.

If we say you should go with the latest, then I say the moment a product lands on the stores aisles and is affordable by common man, it is not latest anymore, believe me. Everything which is latest today will become old in few months span of buying it. But you can always stay problem free if you buy a tested technology which is there to stay and can do your job without needing any patches or new drivers and compatibility issues later.

So, I say buy a laptop or computer for the job you want to do with it, not for having latest laptop with huge storage, ram, and etc.

Check Out This Notebook Turn Into A Desktop

The whole idea of notebook docks was interesting 10+ years ago when we had to be frugal with our I/O ports and live with subpar LCD screens. Now that notebooks have pretty much caught up with desktops, do we really need another docking solution? According to designer Yong-Seong Kim, we do.

His go-anywhere desktop docking solution calls for a large slot behind the LCD display. This is where you slide your notebook in, allowing you to access all its information from a desktop form factor. The notebook’s screen also becomes your second display, in portrait mode of course. It’s an interesting concept but somehow, this makes as much sense as the Palm Folio.
